Data Recovery in Beckenham
Lost photos, documents or email after a drive failure? Home Computer Repairs recovers lost files from all types of storage, including hard drives, SSDs, external drives, RAID arrays and NAS units, for customers across Beckenham and Kent.
What we recover data from
- Hard drives that click, grind or are no longer detected
- Failed and unreadable SSDs, including firmware and electronic board faults
- RAID 0, 5, 6 and 10 arrays
- NAS units, including QNAP and Synology
- Laptops, PCs and Macs that will not start up
- Deleted files, formatted drives and lost partitions
- External hard drives and USB sticks
- Computers damaged by liquid or a fall
- Drives hit by a virus or ransomware (see ransomware recovery)
What to do when a drive fails
- Stop using the drive. Every minute a failing drive runs can make recovery harder.
- Switch off a drive that clicks or grinds. Do not keep restarting it to see if it comes back.
- Do not install recovery software on the same drive. It can overwrite the files you want back.
- Do not open the drive. Dust inside a hard drive can destroy it.
How data recovery works
We start by finding out whether the fault is logical (deleted files, or a corrupted or formatted drive) or physical (a drive that has failed mechanically or electronically). Logical recovery is usually quicker and costs less. Once we know what can be recovered we tell you, and the recovered files are copied to a new drive or to storage you supply.
What data recovery costs
The initial consultation is free. It lets us determine whether the fault is physical or logical and gives you an idea of the best method of recovery. It does not include opening the drive in a clean room or any attempt at recovery.
| Data recovery | Price |

| Physical recovery: clean room diagnostic | £79 + VAT |
| Physical data recovery on a single drive | £450 + VAT for labour, plus the cost of a donor drive if required |

| NAS recovery: QNAP or Synology RAID 5 NAS | £650 + VAT |
Physical recovery covers brands such as LaCie, Western Digital, Toshiba, Hitachi and Verbatim, in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drives. If a donor drive is needed, you buy and provide it: we send you a link to buy it from www.donordrives.com. If we have to buy the donor drive on your behalf, a 30% mark-up is charged, plus import charges and VAT.
External drives are available for data transfers. Prices vary depending on the market rate at the time of purchase.
If the drive itself needs replacing afterwards, see hard drive repairs and upgrades. To move files to a new computer, see data transfer.
